kitty shenanigan's: getting healthier

Jasper & Doris eat too much. So, I've been trying everything possible to curb this. Not an easy task either! If their bowl was empty there was nothing they wouldn't do to get my attention to get that bowl filled. Especially if I was still sleeping the meows would be incessant along with any clever noise making attempts, like whapping my calender against the wall(thwhap, thwhap) & pawing at my Ikea laundry bag(crinkle, crinkle, crunch).

My first attempt at curbing their voracious hunger was to change their bowl. I bought Stimulo interactive feeder by AikiouI found mine on Fab.com a few years ago.

Doris and her Stimulo feeder.... Look at that belly...sigh.
But they figured it out and were found pulling the food out by giant paw fulls onto the floor and then hoovering in the food. Damn it, these kitties are too smart!

After doing some research on better foods I decided to make the switch to Castor & Pollux Ultramix. Castor & Pollux is an organic pet food company out of Oregon. I was able to order the food online at wag.com and get it shipped for free, which is awesome for a girl stuck on an island!
This food is formulated to give nothing but good nutrition to my kids instead of allllll the fillers that other cat foods have which tend to leave them still feeling hungry and gaining weight. I've noticed since we did the switch that they are more active and begging for food less! So fingers crossed they might drop some pounds from their fluffy bellies too!

you're my obsession: Florence + The Machine

I've been listening to Florence since 2010 when I discovered her on the Modcloth blog. Thank you Modcloth!!! Completely befitting, Cosmic Love was the first song that started my obsession for this British band + songstress. I've seen her 2x in concert and could see her a few more as her stage show does not disappoint and her voice is even more magical! I listen to (and sing along with) her music on most long road trips and I never tire of it.

Oh, the harp is the most brilliant addition to the music!

These pictures are from my second show last July. My friend Karin upgraded our tickets to 5 rows from stage for my birthday! Have I ever mentioned I have the most amazing friends?! I DO!

What I love the most about Florence is that she is a complete and utter original from her vocal sound to vintage clothing and she seems to be so humble and sweet. I hope to see her again once I make it to London.

off island adventures: stuart island

Wednesday I went to Stuart Island which is just north of San Juan Island. My friend Kryssy lives off the grid there with her fiance Chris. There is no ferry to get there like to San Juan Island, we get there by her boat.

We started our journey from the docks of Roche Harbor. It was a spectacular day, the weather lately has been amazing!
Good-Bye Roche Harbor!
Captain Chris, Mayra, & Pinto.
Amber enjoying the cruise to Stuart, I was too...
The cruise to the island was just the start of our relaxing fun filled day. Kryssy was waiting for us at the dock on Stuart. Once there we all, yes allll 5 of us,  climbed on to the four wheeler for the ride to Kryssy's adorable cottage.

I think this Totem is happy to see me....
Is this not the cutest cottage you've ever seen?!
Good friends & good beer!

Captain Chris built the coolest chicken coop!

I'm in love with their dog Chunk!
Chicken Loco free ranging outside the window!

Going home was bitter sweet.

I can't hardly wait to go back and chill. Maybe someday Stuart will be my island home?! I loved it! First step will be to learn to drive a boat....

you're my obsession: call the midwife

The second season of Call the Midwife had been running without my knowledge! So, I had a PBS.org catch up fest with my midwife friends. And now I'm back on track with my Sunday evening dose of 1950's London.

The fabulous nurses of Nonnatus House.
If you've never watched your missing out! The characters are fantastic. This has been a wonderful addition to the few shows I love to watch. It also keeps me from missing Downton Abbey till the 4th season arrives. And then I'm sure Downton Abbey will keep me from missing Call the Midwife.... ha!
