kitty shenanigan's: sleep?! anytime. anywhere.

These two can sleep anywhere!  There does seem to be a common thread to all of their "anywhere's".... warmth!  Fireplace, sunshine, and each other.
Silly sleepy kitties...

blackberry inspired morning

Finally my flu induced fog came to an end & I was hungry!  No more soup, tea, or pills.  I wanted some thing to fill me up.  Inspiration struck me as I perused a food blog my mum told me about, Plain Chicken.  Scrolling few pages in there it was... Pancakes!  I was a total cheater by using Bisquick to make mine.  But I added fresh picked blackberries and candied pecans, which I must say was a brilliant idea.

Blackberries right out of my yard.
I found a bunch of blackberries!!
I've got everything I need for breakfast.
Cook faster....
Coffee, butter, syrup, & nectarine slices.... breakfast is served!

kitty shenanigan's: Rufus Tower

In case you have not seen this fabulous YouTube video.  Rufus's owner has made a kitties dream cardboard box condo!  If you have cats you know the allure of a box to there curiosity, it's like the proverbial moth to a flame. Resistance is futile!

I hope that I can make something similar for my kids soon.

P.S. not only does this guy LOVE his cat but his Aussie accent is to die for... I'm gushing!

i get by w/ a little help from my friends...

I've had the dreaded flu for the past week. Ugh, wheeze, cough, ache... mommy!  It has been miserable but my friends have been awesome.  Amber brought me home some Halls lozenges the first day.  That same night Claire came breezing into my home with muffins, brandied raspberries, & her "Smoother Sailing" concoction.  Oh, boy was it a concoction! It consists of lemon juice (fresh of course), herbs (of which she will not tell), & a most predominant dose of whiskey.
I also found some tea my friend Carolyn had given me.  It is the fun blooming tea, where the flower opens up.  It was pretty & tasty.

Feel better remedies!
Soothing flowering tea, ahhh...

Needless to say, but I will, I got by with a little help from my friends near & far.  I hope your friends are as magnificent as mine!

shoe-spirations: pure joy

This adorable picture of a WWII orphan receiving new shoes was sent to Soles4Souls, Inc. & I'm so glad they shared it on Facebook. I think it explains better than any words the pure joy that shoes can bring someone.  Whether it be an orphan getting used brogues or a fashionista sliding into new Choo's, there is a sense of excitement that can't be explained.

I'm in love with this kid!

I too have had this sense of pure joy when making shoes.  My friend Tamera Lyndsay from The Shoe College reminded me that I too had a similar picture...

I too feel pure joy when making a new pair of shoes!!
With a smidgen of delirium?!

fabulous postbox delivery

My knitting guru Janet sent me a new book of fun knits.

Everyone loves to get an Amazon smile in their postbox!
She is concerned that the hat on the front cover was stolen from my line of Ba-Gawk chicken wear I created last year. Ha.
There is no denying the similarity, but alas there is no copyright infringments to worry about! Ha. Thanks for your concern my friend.

Blondie in her one-of-a-kind Ba-Gawk hat.
The new book is gorgeous. With beautiful pictures & projects that fit every knitter's time constraints.

Many thanks Janet!!

crafty shtuff: becoming Effie...

Roche Harbor Resort employee appreciation party's are epic!  There is always a theme to dress up to.  We have a live band, photo booths, food, and alcohol.  Last year was an 80's theme where the spa girls dressed up as Robert Palmer's vixens.
Party 2011

This year was sci-fi/fantasy which made for an absolutely hysterical night of fun!  We all went full force into our costumes, some bought & some made.  Mine was mostly made.  I was Effie Trinket from The Hunger Games.
The lovely Effie Trinket.

I found a hideous dress in the right color to transform into Effie's famous purple outfit.  It was kismet... I still can't believe I found this dress on our little island. As you can see this dress needed to die anyways, there was no guilt as I chopped it up!

Sorry dress.... time to cut you up!
Doris is supervising my construction.
I bought 2 wigs since the Amazon.com reviews said it was thin in the back.
So, I cut one wig up and sewed in some extra volume!
Had to do fabulous eyelashes!! Bundle Monster had 6 for the price of one!
Edwina Scissorhands & Effie T pre-eyelashes.
I had a blast making the fascinator for my costume.  I bought a roll of felt from Etsy seller Crafty Wool Felt

Final results are in, not too shabby eh?!
Effie in name drawing action!!
Photo Booth fun. Vampires, Effie, Trekkie, Starry Goddess & a Unicorn!!! -OH MY!

I can hardly wait till the next soiree!!
