fallin' island style

I still can't believe it's October.  The quiet, the colors, Oktoberfest, noodle bowl Monday's are back, Halloween, kids back in school, and pumpkins!  I think this is my favorite time of year.  I think everyone on the island loves it as well.  On Saturday there was a Farm Parade in Friday Harbor, an apple picking party at the distillery, and Oktoberfest!  What an event filled day.  I look forward to more events to come.

Hello.... Roche Harbor!
These Maples are on FIRE!
Fiery embers all over the ground.
Even Hydrangea colors are even looking more fall-ish.
Farmer's Market is getting fall crops! Yum.
This barn on Orcas Island is ready for Halloween, wish I could see it at night!
I found this green pumpkin and yummy chocolate hedgies on Orcas.
Fall colors and decor at Robin's Nest in FH.
Fun Halloween decor at Robin's Nest.
More Spooky finds at R.N.!

I can't hardly wait to move into my new place and get settled in for the fall/winter season.  To hunker down next to the wood stove this time of year is awesome.  I know Jasper & Doris will be happy to warm up next to the fire as well.
Happy harvesting, haunting, & hunkering down to you all!!

disappearing act...

Well.... I'm sorry for disappearing.  Life has been busy.  I've had a visit from mum last week which was fun & filled with too much good food.  I've been on a mad search to find a new home.  The one I'm in currently is too cold for winter, in fact Jasper is in a tight ball in the corner trying to keep warm as I type this.  I finally found a cozy (as we all know means small) dwelling to share with my new housemate Michael.  Most of our seasonal employees have left the island, business are closed or on winter hours.  It's getting very quiet up here, I think I like it.
Now that it is quiet I will be able to keep up with my bloggin' duties.

kitty shenanigan's: sleep?! anytime. anywhere.

These two can sleep anywhere!  There does seem to be a common thread to all of their "anywhere's".... warmth!  Fireplace, sunshine, and each other.
Silly sleepy kitties...

blackberry inspired morning

Finally my flu induced fog came to an end & I was hungry!  No more soup, tea, or pills.  I wanted some thing to fill me up.  Inspiration struck me as I perused a food blog my mum told me about, Plain Chicken.  Scrolling few pages in there it was... Pancakes!  I was a total cheater by using Bisquick to make mine.  But I added fresh picked blackberries and candied pecans, which I must say was a brilliant idea.

Blackberries right out of my yard.
I found a bunch of blackberries!!
I've got everything I need for breakfast.
Cook faster....
Coffee, butter, syrup, & nectarine slices.... breakfast is served!

kitty shenanigan's: Rufus Tower

In case you have not seen this fabulous YouTube video.  Rufus's owner has made a kitties dream cardboard box condo!  If you have cats you know the allure of a box to there curiosity, it's like the proverbial moth to a flame. Resistance is futile!

I hope that I can make something similar for my kids soon.

P.S. not only does this guy LOVE his cat but his Aussie accent is to die for... I'm gushing!

i get by w/ a little help from my friends...

I've had the dreaded flu for the past week. Ugh, wheeze, cough, ache... mommy!  It has been miserable but my friends have been awesome.  Amber brought me home some Halls lozenges the first day.  That same night Claire came breezing into my home with muffins, brandied raspberries, & her "Smoother Sailing" concoction.  Oh, boy was it a concoction! It consists of lemon juice (fresh of course), herbs (of which she will not tell), & a most predominant dose of whiskey.
I also found some tea my friend Carolyn had given me.  It is the fun blooming tea, where the flower opens up.  It was pretty & tasty.

Feel better remedies!
Soothing flowering tea, ahhh...

Needless to say, but I will, I got by with a little help from my friends near & far.  I hope your friends are as magnificent as mine!
